Orthodontics
Orthodontics as a branch of dentistry is devoted totreatment whose aim is teeth location correction for better chewing and better looks of patients dentition. Removable devices are used along with the stable (tooth-glued) ones in the orthodontic treatment. With mixed-dentition children removable devices are used whereas adolescents and adults are provided with the stable ones.
There are two stages of the therapy with orthodontic devices:
- 1. the first stage is active - and it focuses on reaching the correct tooth location; it lasts from 1 to 2.5 years, depending on the defect size.
- 2. 2. the second stage is retentive - and it consists in maintenance and consolidation of the therapeutic effect; it lasts at least 3 years.
Permanent (stable) devices have extended the range of options and the scope of efficiency of the orthodontic therapies with adult patients especially. However, they involve some discomforts:
- 1. intensified care for oral cavity hygiene (it is more difficult due to the presence of rings, locks, arches, ligatures and elastic tractions).
- 2. no nut crunching or gum chewing, no sticky-candies allowed, etc.
- 3. more frequent and, often, longer visits at orthodontist as avoiding appointments delays the treatment effects.
TEETH MUST BE CLEANED AFTER EVERY MEAL!!!
The device can give adverse effects unless controled by an orthodontist.
Orthodontic treatment requires patient's patience, discipline and persistence, yet it gives a wonderful smile!
Example of orthodontic treatment effects:

Fig. Patient's dentition before orthodontic treatment.
The above picture show a 13 year old patient with considerable narrowing of jaw and lower jaw resulting in numerous dental defects. Intensive crowding of teeth, most visible and most worrying to the patient, accompanied the median line distortion. Apart form that, lower pre-molars were diagnosed as blocked with considerable horizontal nagryzaniem poziomym.

On thorough analysis, we decided to remove the patient's first upper pre-molars and the second lower ones and to install two stable devices. Having finished the therapy, we had the effect which was fully satisfactory to us and our patient.
